Best Garbage Disposal Brand Faq

Richard asks…

What’s the best brand name of garbage disposal to buy?

My son & his wife just had their garbage disposal, take a dump, & they can’t afford to replace it just yet. I want to buy one for them, from Lowe’s, as I can put it on my Lowe’s credit card. I have looked online at various brand names, but I’d like some input from others, who have one in their home. I can only afford one with 3/4 hp. I’d like one that can grinds up chicken bones. Thanks in advance.
I didn’t know B&D had a garbage disposal. I’ve never heard of one, nor have I ever seen one.
I do not give thumbs down!!!!
T-A-D…Thanks for such a detailed answer. I appreciate the info.
MM….Thanks so much for your input.

Reviews of the Best Garbage Disposal – Insinkerator – Waste King – Whirlaway – Sinkmaster:

Depending on who you talk to, the best garbage disposal on the market is up for grabs. Plumbingsupply.com believes that Waste King disposers are the superior brand. They are called the Waste King Gourmet garbage disposals (used to be called the BoneCrushers from Sinkmaster). Plumbingsupply.com says “Their superior quality, easy maintenance and readily available repair parts make them your best choice”. The Waste King Gourmet – 1 HP Model SS8000 sells for $168 and comes with a corrosion proof drain housing and grinding chamber, stainless steel grinding components, heavy cast stainless steel, anti-jam impellers, high speed motor, and a power cord. Other top models include the WASTE KING GOURMET – 1/2 HP Model SS3100 ($97.79), WASTE KING GOURMET – 3/4 HP Model SS5000TC ($189), and the WASTE KING GOURMET – 1 HP Model SS8000TC ($239). As we mentioned earlier, the Insinkerator brand is quite popular and performs very well (from my experience) with powerful motors and great warranties. The best selling models are the Insinkerator – 1.0 horsepower Model 777ss ($319), Insinkerator – 3/4 horsepower Model 555ss ($275), Insinkerator – 3/4 horsepower Model 444 ($195), Insinkerator – 1/2 horsepower Model Badger 5 ($119), and the Insinkerator – 3/4 horsepower Model Badger 5 XP ($179). If you have a septic system, then we suggest the Insinkerator – 3/4 horsepower Model Septic ($249). For smaller 1/3 horsepower motors on garbage disposals, the Whirlaway name comes to mind. Although less powerful, they can still do a great job. The best models are the Whirlaway 191 1/3 HP ($39) and Whirlaway 291 1/2 HP ($49). David asks…

Finally fried my garbage disposal unit :( and must buy a new one. Which brand/s is / are generally considered?

…to be the best (most durable, maybe)? And what horsepower do I need for just everyday household use? I have no idea what I had until a few days ago because it was already here when we bought this house and I ain’t sticking my head under the sink to try and find out LOL. Thanks a ton in advance for your answers :D
Oh! Also, is the unit itself the only thing that will need to be replaced or will some adjacent plumbing also have to go? Sorry if I’m a pest :) My husband says he knows nothing about them and I need to know when I can fit this into our measly budget LOL. I hope soon, because I HATE being without it! Thanks again!

Robert asks…

Do you think my mom should stop asking for so much?

Our refridgerater died a few weeks ago, and then our garbage disposal went too. Well, we do have 13 people living here, including 5 kids under the age of 5, but we weren’t doing so hard off, we were ok because there’s a fridge in the garage. So then, there’s this lady, Heidi, from my moms church who comes around a few times a month just to say hi and chitchat, see how we are, just friendly like that. My mom is a member of the church, but she hasn’t attended in over 3 years. My sister and her family are members and go sporadically, about once a month. The other day though,Heidi was in the parlour, and I was wondering why her husband Brandon was there too. He usually never comes. Two or three hours later, the both of them came back with three of their sons and unloaded an entirely different, new fridge into the kitchen.
Rewind to that morning and I had come out into the kitchen to find a note saying “Emmet is coming early in the morning. Get the house clean!” Emmet is a family friend of ours from a different church we’ve never been to, but he and two of his friends used to come around a lot telling us all about religious things. We hadn’t seen him in awhile, and so the day before my sister said “Hey mom we should call and invite Emmet over, we haven’t seen him in awhile.”

Fast forward to earlier this morning, and I was talking with my sister Candie. I said “so did Heidi and Brandon pay for this fridge or did it come out of the church’s pocket?” and she says “they went on craigslist and got it. Emmett’s getting one too, I don’t know if she told him not to get it anymore yet, but he said ‘I’m gonna go to Best Buy and get you a brand new one, ice maker and everything.’ Mom whined to him about ‘oh this is broken and that’s broken and poor us.’ Even the garbage disposal the whole time he was here.”

Now, I’m not saying I don’t appreciate the generosity of others, I most certainly do, but…I also don’t think it’s fair, appealing, or any other good quality for my mom to use whoever she can trolling around as a charity case. We did need a fridge, but she shouldn’t have asked for that much from people she barely sees.

What do you think? Do you think she did the right thing by asking them for help? Or should she have found a different way and not ‘we can’t survive if you don’t do this one little thing’(well, basically)?
Oh, my, goodness. So, ok, I’ve just been duly informed that not only isn’t she going to tell Emmett not to get the other one, but she’s switching our new one inside for the old one outside so when he brings the one he bought, he won’t even know what happened! Ugh.

In my opinion, your mother is exploiting the charity of others. When you have a working fridge in your garage there is no reason to ask 2 different church groups for a new fridge. It would have been more honest to just ask for help in moving the old fridge up to the kitchen.
