1)– pour a kettle full of boiling water down it once a week.
— grind up some ice cubes in it each week.
— grind up some citrus peels (orange, lime or lemon) each week.
2) use it sparingly to grind up small amounts of food. (It is better to use the non-meat food scraps in a compost heap or bin.
Make sure you use LOTS of running water to wash the scraps down the drain. (Run the water for a few seconds BEFORE grinding and for a few more seconds after you think the food is all ground up.)
3) do not use it for large amounts of food.
Do not use it for non-food items
do not pour oil or any type of grease down the disposal (or sink)
do not grind up really hard things, like bones or egg shells.
